Project Resources - Archipendant Project
Product - Copper and Brass Pendant
Design Catalyst - Sydney Opera House
Suitable age - Year 8-12
The Archipendant project is a complete teaching package designed for teachers of year 8-12 visual art, or design and technology classes. There is no assumed knowledge or skills. The step by step video clips will enable you to teach yourself how to run this project with your class.
The teaching program for this 10 week unit of work is already done for you, not to mention a very extensive set of student information handouts, work sheets, homework units and a class test. The brief is to design and make a decorative pendant from copper and brass. The pendant design will be inspired by a study of the Sydney Opera House.
To support he design component of the project, there are powerpoint slideshows with notes, as well as a video interview with jewellery designers Helge Larsen and Darani Lewers. Our philosophy is to try to provide everything required for teachers to run successful design projects in the High School classroom.
Students will take home a pendant that they may keep for a lifetime or give as a gift, and will have learnt skills and knowledge in design, graphics, architecture, soldering, as well as cutting and joining sheet metals. And it doesn't cost the earth to set it up at your school.
