Find out more about the Making waves
This is a full set of resources for teaching the Making Waves project effectively. The theory of hull design is given rigour and students are given a good understanding of the variations in hull design which informs their own design process. The students notes are enriched with homework tasks, exercises, and a class test. The making process is shown in detail so that it becomes an in class reference for the students. The classroom video introduces the main concepts, demonstrates the making and testing processes and models design thinking. The Teaching Resource Pack also includes 'teacher notes’ which are a valuable starting point for familiarisation with the best delivery method of this project.

The motor assembly comes in parts and each student will need to push the red coupling tube on the motor (do this as soon as the pack is opened), thread the propeller on the shaft, solder the black wire on the (non vent) motor terminal and connect the shaft to the coupling. Note that 2 x C batteries are needed.

This is a great modelling material. It can be filed, drilled, cut and sanded. It is soft yet rigid, is safe for students, and is perfect for the Biomouse project. One sheet will do 8 hulls for the Making Waves project (at 300mm x 150mm piece size) and at least 25 Biomouses.
