The following hints have been offered which
may make your experience of doing this project with your class
more successful.
Please email us if you have any other hints
which other teachers may benefit from. POP RIVETS - REMOVAL
- Ensure the centre mandrel has been knocked
out. Use another rivet to do this.
- Drill through the centre of the
rivet.
- If it does not come out 'wiggle'
the drill as it rotates cutting
the edges of the remaining
part of the rivet
- Use a slightly larger drill
bit 4.5mm. A 4 mm pop rivet
can still be used
with a
slightly enlarged hole -
I do it, it works.
- If this is unsuccessful attempt
to knock out the remaining
piece with a centre
punch by staring from the
outside and working you
way in.
- PRACTICE PIECES - I find
it helps to let students
create their wonderful
front cover on
a
smaller piece of aluminium
to make sure they know
what they are doing,
and that they will
be
happy with it.
